Services
Pricing depends on location and how much prep work is involved before resurfacing takes place.
If there are large amounts of grassyareas and debris, then the pricing will more than likely be the higher price within the square footage that your project falls under.
All milling or grinding for butt joints is included in pricing, so that there are smooth transitions from one surface to another and to also avoid any trip/fall hazards.
This calculator uses the lower cost values, but your situation may require more work, so the price shown is just an estimate.
The standard asphalt depth for new asphalt is 4.
It is comprised of 2.5" of type II 448 asphalt and 1.5" of type I 448 asphalt.
It is important to have a proper base to pave over.
If the sub-base isn't correct, then the new asphalt is already compromised and will prematurely fail.
Below are some of the general types of removal and installs.
To get an idea about prices, you can go on Google Earth and use the measurement tool to get an accurate square footage of your project.
You can then compare the square footage to the listed pricing.
Due to our overhead, these services are only available to our commercial customers and only to our residential if you have had previous asphalt installed by KCA.
Crack filling any cracks with hot tar is very important.
When water seeps through these cracks and infiltrates below the asphalt it causes deterioration.
During the colder months this will cause the asphalt to rise and fall which essentially causes the asphalt to break apart due to heaving.
That's why it is important to fill these cracks with hot liquid rubberized tar.
If it's virgin ground, KCA will dig out the topsoil which is typically around 12" deep and then add 6" of either crushed concrete or asphalt chunks.
Then 6 of granulated 304 slag is put over top of that and compacted.
It's important to never use steel slag since the steel is still letting off gas and will cause imperfections in the finished asphalt.
At KCA, we recommend that the driveway is sealed 5-6 months after installation so it cures properly.
After that, sealing the driveway is for cosmetic purposes and doesn't give the drive any extra structural integrity.
A properly installed asphalt driveway should last anywhere from 15-20 years.
Once the drive shows its age, it's crucial to have it resurfaced within a certain time frame.
If properly timed, the driveway can be resurfaced, and it costs nearly half of the original cost.
A resurfaced drive should last another 10 years.
At KCA, we do both concrete and asphalt and would recommend asphalt over concrete unless it's in an industrial setting where it is poured at 7. Concrete is nearly double in cost and cannot handle heavy truck traffic without it cracking.
