The base coat is aggregate or stone with 1/2 - 3/4 inches of stone in it, providing a strong base.
The surface or top coat is the asphalt with a smaller stone in it, usually 3/8 inch or smaller, that provides a smoother finish.
The base coat is usually layered in a 2 - 3 inch layer before it is compacted.
The surface or top coat is layered to 1 - 2 inches before compaction.
All asphalt must cure, which can take up to a year.
During this time, the asphalt can get marks, usually from tires and sharp objects, like kickstands.

The sealer creates a protective barrier against water, gas, and oil leaks that soften asphalt.
Some people don't like the look of the black asphalt, so we offer the sealer in red, blue, green, or gray.
It comes in either latex or water-based material.
The sealer takes 4-6 hours to dry.
The sealer should be applied when the surface is 60 degrees or warmer for a proper bond to the asphalt.
